In November of golden autumn, the harvest season, the 23rd AAOU Annual Conference will be held in Tehran, Iran, which attracts worldwide attention today. It is a great honor for PNU to host AAOU 2009 Conference.
On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the AAOU Conference, I am highly pleased to declare that: the 23rd AAOU Annual Conference will be held from November 3 to 5, 2009 in Tehran, Iran. The theme of the Annual Conference is "Evaluation of Open and Distance Learning Systems".
The 23rd AAOU Annual Conference will provide a broad and rational platform for the educators and the friends from all social sectors who are engaged and interested in Open and Distance education.
For more than 20 years since the establishment of AAOU, Asian and international open education has been making new achievements with the idea of life-long learning, the progress of economic globalization and educational technology, but it is faced with new opportunities and great challenges as well.
In order to interpret the theme completely and accurately, the annual conference will generalize systematically and exhibit intensively the following from five basic aspects: Evaluating Socio-Economic Performance of Open and Distance Learning (ODL), Evaluating Academic Performance of ODL, Evaluating the Impact of Modern Technologies on ODL Systems, Evaluating Organizational and Staff Development in ODL and Evaluating Cooperation among ODL Systems. So, the integration of evaluation into the ODL systems can help identify some of the most intractable problems facing ODL systems.
On behalf of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Minister of Science, Research and Technology, as well as all my colleagues at PNU and the Conference Organizing Committee, I would like to invite the members of the AAOU and all friends who are interested in the theme of 23rd AAOU Annual Conference to attend this significant meeting. We are looking forward to your suggestions and research results to be shared and spread around the world. We will give our welcome to every distinguished guest from all parts of the world. Let us spend the pleasant time together in Tehran, enjoying the golden season of autumn and composing the new chapters to open and distance education together. All my very best.
